Traffic Citations

If you signed the Penalty Assessment box on your citation, you must submit or mail your payment, in full, no later than 30 days from the date of the citation. Not all traffic violations can be paid by penalty assessment, and may require an appearance before the judge. These appearances are called “arraignments” or “hearings” just as they are for non-traffic offenses.

Some Traffic Citations May be Dismissed

You may have certain citations dismissed if you present the following documents to the court clerk prior to the date/time of your hearing. You may personally present the proof immediately prior to the date/time of your scheduled Court Appearance (written on the citation) or you may place a copy of the documentation in an envelope, addressed to the Hagerman Municipal Court, and deliver it to Town Hall, or leave it in the drop-box to the left of the front door, no less than 24 hours prior to your hearing.

  • NO REGISTRATION/NO LICENSE PLATE: Proof of current registration at the time that the citation was issued.
  • OPERATORS AND CHAUFFEURS MUST BE LICENSED: Proof of your driver’s license, which was valid at the time of the traffic stop.
  • NO INSURANCE (MANDATORY FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY): The insurance card that indicates that you had insurance on the date that the citation was issued. Your insurance company may be contacted to verify coverage.
  • DEFECTIVE EQUIPMENT (BROKEN TAIL LIGHTS, BROKEN HEADLIGHTS, BROKEN WINDSHIELD, WINDOW TINT/SUNSCREEN, ETC.): The repaired vehicle must be taken to the Hagerman Police Department, located at 501 E. Argyle St., with the defendant’s copy of the citation. At the police department, request that an officer sign the ticket, showing that the violation has been rectified.

Non-Traffic Citations

Non-traffic citations are given for offenses in violation of the Town of Hagerman’s Criminal Code Ordinance on General Offenses. These offenses always require an appearance before the judge and are each punishable by up to 90 days in jail, up to a $500 fine, or both.
